Convertible Roof Transmissions(!)

Recommended Posts

Howdy All

The covertible top on my '01 Bosxter S wouldn't close all the way under its own power, so I took it to the local dealership. Surprise, surprise- it needs a pair of transmissions for the roof mechanism ($1200 per plus $800 labor- $3200 total).

Can anyone recommend an independent mechanic in the eastern PA area (Chester/Lancaster/Berks/Delaware counties)? I want a second opinion.

Thanks in advance,

Fudgie

Fudgie:

Here's a second opinion:

I highly doubt that both transmissions went bad at the same time.

If need be, you can get two transmissions from a dismantler or someone parting out their car. Make sure they are the "B Version" transmssions (Stehle brand) Should be less than $300 for the pair.

Come to Freeport, NY and I'll help you install the replacement transmissions for free. Should take us about two hours. According to that dealer's rates, you can save almost $3K.

Regards, Maurice.
