1999 996 C2 Cab Tiptronic problem

Recommended Posts

My 996 C2 Cab with 65k miles is having some triptronic problems in auto mode. The car shift with no problem upto 4th gear and does not go into 5th gear until 60-75MPH. However in manual mode i have no problems shifting up or down. I took it to a local porsche shop and ran a diag that produced an OBD P0740. The shop checked the AFT level and it came in fine. Replacing pressure reg. 4 fix this problem?

P0740 Fault, torque converter clutch - present

Potential causes:

- ATF supply

- Torque converter

- Pressure regulator 4 (hydraulic)

- Electrical triggering to pressure regulator 4

- Hydraulic control unit

Could be anything else on the list without further investigation.

Realizing the car is 11 years old - when was the last time the ATF was changed?

If a sample is black - then it needs to be changed.

The last AFT change was done about 6k miles ago.The oil sample looks good!
