Clunk when driving off from a stop

Recommended Posts

2002 c2 tip 87k miles new engine installed 6k miles back.

This started happening after my first DE of last week. Ran the car pretty hard which I dont typically do...

When I apply the gas from a full stop - the car just starts rolling and I get a one time clunk from the rear. Its more of a felling then a sound... and its REALLY felt. Only happens when I gas it a bit not when I just roll off like grandma...

shop is closed and I wont be able to make it till next weekend - any ideas before I get it looked it (sort of anal about things being wrong with the car)

Was planing on another DE in 3 weeks...

thanks

Sounds like a motor mount. Were the motor mounts replaced with the new motor?

Checked the receipts and motor mounts are not mentioned - just a "motor" and various fluids.

What the diy test procedure for those? I also read it could be the transmission mount being mine is a tip...

how does one isolate which of the mounts it is? where are the mounts located? Hoping to peek under and have a look for anything obvious after work

thanks

MY 2003 C2 Tip(19,500 miles) has been making noises too. Upon a hard 1st gear start or reverse...there is a loud "tink"...metal on metal sound... Sometimes mutiple "tink" "tink"... I finally sucked it up and scheduled a visit to the Dealer (in 2 weeks)... A local shop cringed when I mentioned this and directed me straight to the dealer... Really gonna be #$%&*! if its the tranny...

UPDATE: I spent 6 hours watching the Porsche of Melbourne Tech investigate my clunk today on my 2003 C2 996 with 19,600 miles. With collaboration from multiple techs... "It sounds like your right drive shaft may be in the early stage of failure" "But, we are not sure enough to replace it yet". Here is the real kicker.... They did not charge me anything. I will say it again.... THEY DID NOT CHARGE ME ANYTHING. No definative answer....no charge.... There are far worse 996 issues than a CVJ failing... and no charge??? I still am dumbfounded....

Thank You Porsche of Melbourne!

Anyone else get an answer??

Well..its in the shop as i type and the TRANNY MOUNT is gone.. simple fix thank God. Apparently not that common of a problem on the tiptronics. Manuals are more prone to breakage. Both rubber insulators where completely gone. He has never seen one so bad.

Hoacha, I think I have the same issue. Mine is a C4 with tiptronic. Any idea on the cost to replace the tranny mount? Does the tranny and engine have to come out? Thanks and good luck with your fix.

Same issue with mine (02 C2 Cab Tip w/53k miles). Clunk on accel with the addition of a vibration at idle. Trans mount insulators were completely separated from the aluminum mount.

Mount was $243.00 U.S. and it takes about 30 minutes to change (with air tools) including time to lift the car and put it down. Pelican Parts has them for $240.75 +ship.
