2004 Cabriolet Hardtop

Recommended Posts

I just bought a 996 Cabriolet hardtop off of ebay for my 2004 C2 Cab. The hardtop came from an 1999 996 C2 Cab.

I want to install it before I pay to get it painted but it does not seem to latch on the rear. I can place the top on the car and latch the windshield lock but the two rear latches do not seem to have anything to latch on to. The two pins on the rear of the hardtop fit nicely into the holes but there is nothing in there for them to latch onto when I place the tool into the slot and turn the pins.

What am I missing here? The dealer told me that the mechanism for all 996 cabs are the same and that no additional parts are needed to install the top.

Shouldn't there be some kind of mounting hardware to which the pins on the rear of the top latch onto? I can see nothing of the kind inside the two holes that the pins can latch to when I turn them with the allen key tool.

Any help getting this installed would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, apparently they stopped putting the latches in MY2004 cars if you didn't order the hardtop with it. Have a look at this post

Thanks Loren.

What did Bavarian find out about the installation of the hardware? Is this doable? I'm a bit angry because my dealer who I bougth the car from told me that no additional parts or hardware was needed. Now I am stuck with a hardtop and am unsure what is involved in installing the locking mechanism.

Welcome to my world--it will cost you around $500 to get the parts. You will need the following:

996 563 403 03 new L lock

996 563 404 03 new R lock

900 378 030 09 screws x6

996 561 653 03 new bracket L

996 561 654 03 new bracket R

I expect my parts this week and will tackle the job (hopefully) this weekend.

I will let you know how it goes.
