G'Day and my 1st Q

Recommended Posts

Hello to all, I recently acquired my 1st Porsche, 996 C2,1998. After a fairly extensive search, its a small market down here in Australia I found "the one". I'll post some pic's up in another thread when I have some of the typically Aust backgrounds, you know, Opera House, beaches etc. Right, so given I work in Information Technology my mechanical questions may reflect that, apologies up front. My car has no alarm siren, I believe it had an after market tracker which p'bly had its own siren. So in investigating I found a plug with two space connectors, drivers side next to the battery. With a bit of proding from the multimeter I got these results:

No key in, alarm disabled 3.2V

No ket in, alarm enabled 3.2V

Key in ignition, turned to accessories - 0.0V

Alarm triggered 9V (+-2V) (lights flashing madly)

Am I looking at the OEM siren connector? Are those voltages there too "check" for a sirens exsitance?

The in cabin LED 2X blinks ever 2 secs when the alarm is enabled.

Thanks in advance - Brett.

On a RHD car, the alarm siren and tilt sensor are located to the right of the battery (as you look at it). I think Loren is correct, as the alarm horn is to the left of the battery.

If your LED is double-flashing, then you have an alarm system fault. A diagnostic check with a Porsche tester should show what's wrong.

Thanks :thankyou: gents that is making sense, I got hold of a parts catalogue, sorry make that a katalog and the alarm horn graphic has the male side of the spade connector, I'll have a look around for the siren connections etc on the other side of the car. Once thats sorted then work my way through the 2X blink faults, assuming they still exist when the "bits" are back. Given I do something completely different occupation wise this car thing is a whole world of fun :). Right I am off to do an ICV and throttle body clean -
