Drivers Side Shelf Addition

Recommended Posts

Until about 1999, the Boxster had a small horizontally mounted shelf under the dash and beneath the steering column (part # 996 552 173 00). It is low cost, about $20. To gain a bit more space in my glove box, I was thinking about adding one of these to my 2003 S. I have not been able to find a 98 or 99 to see how the shelf is attached, and I am wondering if there is anything different about the 2003 in the area beneath the dash that would preclude such an installation.

I have been waiting 2 years for someone to ask this question. I'm serious. Porsche eliminates something from production and then someone wants to retrofit it. Like when the new style instrument cluster came out in 2001 and everyone complained because the digital speedo moved over to the left.

I always though that storage thing was worthless and 1997 did not have it. It started in 1998 and went away in 2003 when the glove box came out. It is held in place with 2 plastic rivets. I do not know of any reason you cannot put one in a 2003. I do not have a 2003 handy to look out, so I assume you will have to drill 2 small hole for the plastic rivets that you will not be able to see.
