1996 Carrera 4 Cabriolet pricing question

A neighbor in my building in Florida is looking to sell his 1996 Carrera 4 Cabriolet. He asked me to give him an offer for the car, however I am having a hard time figuring out what a fair offer is (Edmunds/KBB are all over the place with their estimates).

I was wondering if I could get some advice on the car as well as what I should offer him for the car. Below are some details on the car:

  • 1996 Carrera 4 Cabriolet
  • Current owner has the car for 5 years. iThe car spends it's summers in NY and winters in Florida.
  • Believes that he is the 2nd owner.
  • Very good condition (some wear/tear in the interior)
  • Just put $8K into the car (including new top/computer)
  • 36K milles, though he aid that the odometer stopped working about 5 months ago. Thinks he may have put 2-3K on the car since that. My gut is that it has 40K miles on it.
  • Said the that AC works intermittently, had the problem since he bought the car. Is this a common problem with this model year? I will be using the car in Miami so having an AC (even though it is a Cabriolet) would be nice to have.

Is there anything mechanical issues that I should look at while testing the car?

Thanks in advance for any help/advice.
