996 C4 Variable Valve Timing Issue

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

I am new to this forum and was wondering if I could have some advice on an issue which I have been experiencing.

First of all my vehicle details as follows: 996 C4 Tiptronic 2002 3.6l (UK RHD)

Issue description:

I had an engine management light come on my dash and had it checked out where the following information was given to me. The first thing I was told was to change all of the coil packs, so I had new coil packs on the vehicle, however this did not solve the issue. I was then told that there is a misfire on cylinder 5 and was advised that it may need new tappit buckets installed as it effects the variable valve timing. This is currently where I am at with the situation.

My question:

My question is simply, has anybody had such an issue before and can someone advise me if this is the correct fix for a misfire on a cylinder?

If it is a variable valve timing issue, can someone tell me how it is solved (ie what work needs to be done and what components fitted)?

Many Thanks for your time.

Fred

:welcome:

It is very helpful to give us the exact fault codes reported.

The codes report the exact location to start looking at - and multiple codes point to other possible trouble areas that can cause similar faults.

Bottom line - we need the fault codes.
