The danger of buying used wheels *A MUST READ*

Recommended Posts

So I am driving along the road and I hear a very odd grinding noise. I pulled over and 2 of my spokes on my Kineses F110 wheel are cracked all the way through the spokes! I was amazed as I thought these were bullet proof strong wheels! So I have the car flat bedded away to a near by shop. The tire guy comes back to me and says that they have been welded up recently! I just bought these a month ago from a forum member online that told me they were "just re-painted because of some minor scratches." I am pretty pissed at this point for not only being f*cked over for buying welded up wheels but this could have killed myself or others on the road!!! Imagine if I was driving the car hard and it busted completely!

You can see the welds on the back side were the cracks are if you look closely. Come to find out these wheels were bought from a major wheel company online, welded up, painted over, and re-sold!

Personally, I think if a name is going to be dropped? And the member is a member of this forum. It should be sent to Loren and let him make that decision. Just my opinion. Glad you're ok and no one was hurt dgreen!

Wow! That sucks. And you have to be a jewel to sell someone some crap like that and lie about it. You should at the very least get a refund.....Should pay for the tow etc also. man...Some people are just A-holes. Glad it was not worse!

I think you would be doing a service to all members by disclosing who sold the wheels. It the seller has a defense then they can present it. Otherwise they will have the chance to do something like this again to another buyer.

I'm not clear here: Who did the welding - the retail outlet or the member here?

The wheel company that sells a ton of Porsche wheels on California welded them up 2X! They bought the wheels dirt cheap, welded the one that had 2 busted spokes, then resold them. The new buyer drove on them for 300 miles and 2 spokes again cracked. After months of batlling with the wheel company he gets them back welded up yet again. He then decides too off them on someone else (myself).

The seller whom I bought them from says he has no money to refund. The wheel company who actually shipped me the damaged wheel from their shop has told me they will give me a credit towards another set. I told them they will be hearing from my attorney.

I am just afraid their are some bad wheels going around from this company so I wanted to give everyone the heads up. Due to legal reasons I am refraining from mentioning the companies name. If you need more info anyone can PM me. Companies that put lives at risk pulling this sh*t should not be in business IMO.

What I find shocking is I offered to return them for a refund and was instead told I could have 2/3 store credit for a different set of wheels from the place.

If you were a smart business man wouldn't you do what it takes to get this put away and keep from going viral on the net?

The response from the seller isn't a good one, and I wouldn't accept it. He knew what he was doing, and I bet he was asking more than the fair market value for a set of shady, god-knows-how-many-times-re-welded, wheels. Claiming no money and owning a Porsche don't go hand-in-hand. Well, most of us have no money because of the Porsche, but what I mean is that line of B.S. doesn't ring true as by owning a Porsche he really ought to have the capacity to get his hands on the money and do the honorable thing. Hate that kinda crap, irresponsile and just really bad form (to put it mildly). If there's a proven risk for this type of wheel, I'd call the cops on the both seller and wheel dealer. Unacceptable, whatever the circumstances.
