TEMP SENSORS ALL GIVING MINUS READINGS!

Recommended Posts

HI GUYS.

MY 1999 3.4 CARRERA 4 HAS A WARM STARTING PROBLEM.

ONCE WARM IT TAKES A LONG WHILE FOR IT TO FIRE UP, AFTER WHICH IT RUNS ROUGHLY BACKFIRES ETC.

IT IS CURRENTLY WITH MY INDY, WE PLUGGED IT INTO THE DIAGNOSTICS AND FOUND ALL TEMPERATURE SENSORS WERE READING MINUS FIGURES. OIL TEMP -48, ENGINE COMP -48, EXHAUST -16 ETC. EFFECTIVELY THE CAR THINKS IT IS COLD THEREFORE IS RUNNING RICH ALL THE TIME AND OVER-FUELLING (EXPLAINS THE BAD MPG!)

APPARANTLY ALL THE TEMP SENSORS ARE CONNECTED TO ONE LEAD BEHIND THE AIR-CON COMPRESSOR WHERE THEY ARE EARTHED, IT COULD BE A BAD EARTH CAUSING THIS PROBLEM WE THINK. ANOTHER PERSON SAID THEIR WIRING LOOM TO THE ECU HAD BEEN RUBBING ON BODYWORK AND EXPOSED A WIRE WHICH WAS EARTHING OUT.

HAS ANYONE EVER ENCOUNTERED THIS PROBLEM BEFORE??

ANY IDEAS OR HELP WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED.

THANKS GUYS.

SIMON
