Oil quantity shows low after oil change with exact measurement added -

Recommended Posts

2004 - C4S - 50,000km /31,000 miles - 3.6 liter engine

Completed my very first DIY oil change thanks to Renntech.org DIY tutorial and it went well. Good feeling not getting ripped off at the dealer and already adds to the enjoyment of this very fine machine . . . .

New Hengst Oil filter, new stainless drain plug as recommended AND moved from Mobil 1 to exactly 8.25 liters/ 8.71 US quarts of Castrol Edge Sport 10 W 60 recommended by two Renntech members I respect who agreed best oil based on my location ~ Dubai, UAE ~ temp today was 110 Fahrenheit, btw.

Took her out after for a five mile warm up run to 180 degrees - returned home and both dipstick and computer show low oil after appropriate rest ~ oil showing on tip of stick only and lowest bar flashing on computer measurement.

Checked for leaks all clean, recently had the engine out and it is not a bearing issue ~ no oil loss there.

Any advice appreciated, maybe I am too quick off the mark and need to just run her a bit longer and check frequently?

thanks for advice.

Not uncommon for the in car system so show low just after the car has been run. Let it sit on a level surface for a bit, say 30 min., and then re-check it, it should be back to where it was when you got done changing the oil.

Thanks JFP, seems just a case of new oil ~ over reaction on my part, took her out today and all well.

Also, if you don't drive it very far or very long, the oil doesn't heat up fully. So when you turn off the engine, the oil takes longer to drain down into the oil pan (because it's thicker).
