Bizarre electrical issues

Recommended Posts

My 2005 997 has been having strange electrical issues. It started with the passenger door window not going down 1/4" when the handle was pulled, then the passenger door would occasionally not lock when the vehicle was locked from the remote. Then the drivers door window would go down 1/4", but not go back up. Then it would not go up from the down position, but would instead go further down. Next the cruise control would turn off while driving. Now the service engine light is coming on. They seem to be in a random pattern that comes and goes.

Durametric is showing a long list of trouble codes. Some saying implausible signal. It is as if there is a master controller that has been slowly failing over 6 months and is now disrupting communications between all of the modules, thus the seemingly random but increasingly broad and frequent problems/codes.

Any ideas on where to begin looking for the problem?

Pete

997 / 987 use no longer the 996 / 986 classic ignition switch design with an electrical / mechanical switch on the rear end of the assy. It has become an electronic unit, this does not mean that the switch has no problems, but you can test / check the switch assy. with a PIWIS diagnostic tool.
