986 accelerator pedal unit replacment questions (non e-gas)

Recommended Posts

I've searched for a while and couldn't find the answers to my questions, so I apologize if I missed them...

I've got a non-e-gas accelerator pedal with a hinge that is ripping free of the base unit. The hinge is broken and the base unit screws are also stripped so it looks like I need a new base unit and hinge at a mimum, so I may have to just buy and entirely new aseembly. My questions:

1. I've seen several DIY's (with pictures even) for the e-gas version of the unit, but not the wired-throttle version. Is the throttle cable difficult to remove and reattach to the unit?

2. When I replace the assembly, will I have to re-adjust the cruise control or throttle cables or do they just pop back in with no adjustment required?

3. Loren - can you tell me which part number I need? I've seen many part numbers online for mutliple versions of the assembly and it looks like they may have been revised over time. I have a 99 986 with cruise control and 5-speed.

Thanks in advance!

Richard Hamilton did a thread on how to upgrade a non-cruise control car to a cruise control car and there is a certain amount of detail about installing the pedal in that thread. Can't remember if the thread is here or on the PCGB forum though (his car was a 996 so it'll be in that forum, whichever site).

I'll be interested in the answer to this as well since I have to replace the throttle cable on my 99' 996... it is starting to fray near the throttle body (of course the cables are going to be different, but the procedure might be similar).

It looks like your P/N is 98642302508 MSRP $338.86

I'm pretty sure I have a 996 throttle cable that I would part with for far less than that list price. I also have a couple of non-egas pedal assemblies from cars that were converted to egas to run 996/997 engines.

Thanks guys - exactly the info I needed. One question remains: do you think I will need to make any adjustments to the cables when I reinstall? The throttle works great right now and I'd hate to have to readjust without knowing what I'm doing...

Thanks again everyone.

Todd - I sent you a PM...
