Engine ticking noise

I have a 2005 tts cabrio with 44k on clock that has a small ticking noise that seems to be coming from the bottom part of the engine case. No codes or performance problems. The car drives and performs 100%. I noticed this more when i put a fab speed exhaust on. Is this typical of these engines as it does not get any louder as you accelerate.

The Turbo and the GT3 engines are rather noisy. I have a 2007 997 TT and my engine makes a lot of noise. I have found that by using a 5-40 weight oil (instead of the 0-40) greatly reduces the rattles and ticks.

If you are using the 0-40 weight oil try the Castrol full synthetic 5-40 or 10-40 (both Porsche approved oils) with your next oil change.

I think you will notice a big difference.

If the sound is really loud and unusual you should have a tech look at it.

Because you live in a warm climate you may want to try the 10-40. Your car will like it!

I recently changed to mobile 1 0-40 euro formula and my "ticking" noise drastically decreased. Stll there a little, but the difference was shocking.

10W-40 is not a recommended weight. For warner climates try the 5W-50.
