coolant replacement 2001 996

Recommended Posts

Ok I was involved in an accident where my raditor was replaced on one side as a result the body shop also needed to replace some coolant. I mentioned to the body shop they needed to use special coolant and they indicated they used a universal coolant that mixes with anything. Is this possible? Is there a way to test the coolant to see if it meets Porsche spec? about 5k miles ago I had 10,000+ worth of work done to my engine by a porsche dealership including replacing coolant so I know the engine was in perfect running order. I know the smart thing to do would be replace the coolant but in all honesty not sure I can afford in after paying the ductuctible.

There are some compatible coolants, and depending on how much they added it might not be a problem. Here is a good read on compatible coolants:

The best thing to do for small quantities is just add distilled water.

If you are uncertain what they added and they don't have a brand name for you I would have the system drained and filled, you don't want it to gell on you. That would create a much larger bill to clean up.
