2009 Turbo (tiptronic) or 2010 Carrera 4S (PDK)

Recommended Posts

Guys, just a simple question for you. I have the money to go for a 2009 911 Turbo, or a 2010 Carrera 4S. Both are lovely cars. The question is which one should I go for?

The Turbo is a Tiptronic: am I swearing in church if I go for a Tiptronic Turbo?

Am I giving up too much power if I go for a 4S?

I've read so many reviews about the PDK being awesome, that I'm starting to fear my $10k deposit on the Turbo is an expensive lesson.

Does anyone have experience of driving a Turbo tiptronic? It looks like the only way to manually control the gear shifting is via fiddly little buttons on the steering wheel, is that correct?

Thanks,

Ted

They are totally different cars; the Turbo has “the look” and can lay on gobs of power, but some of it is lost to the Tip. The 4S does not have as much raw power, but is a very refined handler and can still be a blast to drive, plus the PDK is a huge improvement over the Tip. Depends upon where you head is at...........

The 09 TT is a good improvement over the 08TT.

I drove the PDK 4S and it is a nice DD.

Too bad you cannot reach to a 10 PDK TT

Thanks, I just test drove both cars. And have to say that for regular street driving the difference between Tiptronic and PDK is for my untamed feet/hands not noticeable. The only big difference is the buttons on the steering wheel are a little chunkier on the 4S than the TT. As for missing the manual gear box, I think I'd rather have two hands on the steering wheel with this car.

The 4S actually sounded nicer because the one I tried had the sports exhaust package, and what a wonderful sound! But all said and done you could notice a sizeable difference in power when you flawed the beasts.

I agree with the others.. Totally different cars. I had an 06 Carrerea S and traded it for an 07 Turbo 6 speed. I freakin LOVE my Turbo. I loved the Carrera too. If I had the money and the room I would have both. I agree with Dnlivet. Why not try to find a 2010 TT with PDK? That is an awesome car and WAY better than the TIP. I think you will be happy either way. But I personally would only have a PDK if I wanted an automatic..

Thanks for all your comments. My budget has a clear cut off line, so I'll go for the Tip vs. a PDK 4S. PDK on paper sounds awesome, but I didn't notice the difference in street driving, and I'll be street driving 95% of the time.

Had a 997-1 4S manual with sport exhaust and was disappointed by the lack of power, traded it in for a 9971 TT manual and love the car... Especially with the TechArt sport exhaust. Sure I'll get bashed but the 4S almost felt like driving an Audi, great car, superb road holding but no umph factor. The TT is on a league of it's own

Have to agree with Francois. Hard to beat the Turbo's "smile factor"... :jump:
