Porsche 996 Tail Light LED

Recommended Posts

Hello Guys,

I just saw in Ebay those beautiful tail lights LED for 99-04 Carrera 2 as mine. Any goods? No risk? It is compatible? or Any problem reported with this upgrade? Any mofidication required?

I just picked up a like new used set off ebay for $150.00. Red/Clear. Love them! They really update the back end of the car, and I've got several compliments from other Porsche owners. You may also consider getting the LED 3rd brake light, because the new LED tails will light up much quicker than the traditional lights. Mine was all plug and play (although it took about 15 minutes to figure out which plugs go where because there are no instructions), once you figure out the layout, then it's a piece of cake.

I have replaced the third brake light on my wife's MY03 Boxster (and my MY02 Targa) with LED units. Both were PnP units.....but, both had instructions to be used to ensure that the cars' plug polarity was correct. Because diodes only allow electricity to flow one way, plug polarity is important.

I think the problems with most LED brake lights have been polarity problems. The cure for polarity problems is generally swapping the power wire with the ground wire in the plug.

My present tail lights (2003 C4S) have stress cracks in the lens, and the mounting tabs are either broke or cracked. Other than that the lights work fine... :-) If I change out the lights I was thinking of the LED light option, but it appears that none of the after market LED lights are compatible with the C4S (wide body)? Is that a fact?

Thanks,

Currently that is true - 996 narrow body and wide body have different tail lights. 996TT and C4S are the say -- a manufacturer says he will have them early this year.

I am really interested in swapping out tail lights. Any update on availability of LED Tail Lights for 996 C4S (wide body)?

I wouldn't wait for the wide body LED tail lights. I think the bottom line is that there are not enough cars to make the tooling worth while. I

finally bought new factory lights since mine had broken mounting tabs.

I changed out my 3rd brake light to a LED strip.

Just finished installing aftermarket LED Tailights, 3rd brakelight (both) and side markers...Plug and play no problems...Did it through DelRey Customs in Venice CA. Very Happy..a bit pricey about $post-101019-0-92613100-1428332796_thumb.1,100 for all....they come in 3 colors clear with red LED/ Smoke with red LED and Dark Smoke with Red LED. 3rd brakelight comes red lens with red LED (OEM) or smoke with red LED. Side markers are Smoke with amber or white LED....I did the smoke with RED and the side markers smoke with white LED..

just a followup..the red reflector on my 2002 can be smoked to match the smoke color on the LED lights..I may be putting a GT3 wing on mine which the reflector will then be removed...all in all i get nothing but compliments even from my friend who owns an independent dealership and wasnt too keen about changing the lights.
