Window not dropping when opening the door from inside (passenger)

Car 2006 C2S

Issue - On the passenger side, when I open the door from outside, the window does drop down a little and stays down untill I close the door. But when the door is opened from inside, the window does not drop, and drops only when the door starts to open. Then stays down untill the door is shut, when it goes back up again.

Based on this scenario, and searching around here, i believe that the microswitch at the inside door handle is gone bad. I called the local dealer to order the microswitch. The dealer told me that 996 had 3 microswitches, but 997 has the inside switch integrated into the latch. So I have ordered the latch (about $180)

Can someone confirm if this is the case. Thanks a lot.

I can't say for sure. Looking at the pic of the interior door trim in the parts catalog, there's no indication of a switch associated with the lever. I'm concerned that it might not be part of the lever, but rather part of the upper trim piece (where the window switches are located).

Sorry I was slow to get back to you. I just now had a chance to go out to the garage and play around with it a bit. The part that the arrow points to appears to just be a rubber stopper to absorb the impact of the door lever. The smaller button below and to the left of that is actually the switch/sensor. You can test it by pulling the lever open a bit and pushing it in or releasing it. Of course, you already know this doesn't work, so that's the likely culprit. There's a protrusion on the back of the lever that should push that button in when the lever is closed. Verify that hasn't cracked or broken off (unlikely). Then just make sure that whatever you ordered from the dealer includes whatever that button is connected to. Looks like it must be contained with the "insert", which is the piece with the window switches, etc. I'm assuming it connects to the box from this pic that has the red connector plugged into it.


It might be worth disassembling the door panel though, just to see what's back there. Maybe you can source a switch independently, rather than paying $180 for the whole replacement part from the dealer..

Thanks Paul, the dealer said its the latch 9 out of 10 times, but I still think its the switch/sensor at door handle. Marcus, you are right, I did the disassembly. Here are more details along your line of thought.

Here is the picture of door panel. Solid arrow pointing to the plunger, which pushes on the microswitch.

Following picture shows the reverse side, arrow pointing the location of the plunger. Red arrows point at the connector release tab and the tab below to release the module itself, note the part# 997.613.156.03

I did not get a chance to check if the microswitch itself in faulty. Next I am going to check with the dealer on ordering this window switch module and test if this resolved the issue.

I may have lowered the picture quality too much. Let me know and I can upload better quality pictures.

Awesome. Thanks for the follow up with detailed analysis & pics.

I found a link based on the part number, and it looks like that switch module is about a $40 part. That's much better than the $180 you were originally quoted.

Good luck! I hope that replacing this part resolves your issue.

Issue fixed!!

Replaced the door switch, and now the window drops a little as soon as the inside door handle is pulled. Here is the analysis.

The design of the new version of door switch part has been greatly improved. Note the part version 997.616.156.05 A05. This is defferent number than original, but fits perfectly.

New switch assembled to the door trim.


Reassembled the door panel in reverse order as per the orginal DIY.

      And here I am desperate after about a days worth of trying to figure out the problem
      Cayman 2007.
      Basically the story is:
      The car battery was empty, to the point it did not start. I called the dealer, they picked up the car and they changed the battery. When i got the car back, when the passenger door opens the door goes down 10cm but when the door is closed it doesnt go up again.
      I called the dealer they put the car on the diagnostic and they told me that the problem is probably a vary small part on the locking mechanism of the door but they can only change the whole mechanism, quote $600. I said thank you and left.
      I assumed its the door latch microswith. So i took the door appart, check the microswitch on the door latch, it was working, I gave it a good clean anyway and i put it back, problem pressist.
      I though maybe its a problem with the connection inside the latch? Anyone knows the pinout of the latch so I can check without dissasembling it?
      Maybe its the main door connector? Anyone knows the pinout there?
      Anyone has any other ideas in general?

      Several tutorials re: replacing rear quarter window weather seal say "raise window fully by pressing the microswitch in the "windscreen panel" while pressing the rocker switch - but - where the heck is the microswitch? Does the door panel upholstery have to  be removed to get to it?

      Does anyone know the part number for the mechanism in the passenger door (right side) that I need to replace due to the micro-switches failing? My regulator is fine (not window play) and the interior handle works, but the exterior handle sometimes does not cause the window to drop to allow the glass to fit into the roof frame (cabrio). I've read I've got the replace the whole mechanism because the micro-switches aren't available separately, but I've never seen mention of the part number.

      For a little while now, my passenger side window
      has not been dropping down to allow the door to open/close. So I bought the
      microswitch and went to install it on saturday. Well, it wasn't until after I
      had the door panel off that I realized I don't have the triple square bit to
      remove the latch assembly NO worries,
      I'll put it back together and do the fix after I pick up the correct tool.

      So after the door panel is back together, I fire it up and notice:
      the power windows don't work
      2- sunroof doesn't work
      3- rear defroster
      doesn't work
      4- map lights don't work.

      Now, what would pulling the
      door panel off and putting it back on have ANYTHING to do with this list of
      failures? I checked the associated fuses in block D of the fuse box. They were
      all fine. Is there a relay connecting all of these features that may have

      One other thing that I can't imagine would have an impact: When I
      went to remove the door panel, the wires that go to the little orange LED in the
      handle pulled out of the connector. I plan on picking up some wiring supplies at
      radioshack to fix this, but its only the handle LED...if that is somehow wired
      in series with the rest of those features...I would have to question Porsche's
      sense in that.

      Anyone know what might be going on here? Also, does
      anyone have a wiring diagram of this car?
