Porsche Cayenne ATF vs. Toyota Type IV ATF

Recommended Posts

So for everyone that has been discussing Porsche Cayenne ATF....AKA JW3309/LT41171.Porsche PN 000 043 205 28There has always been debate on Toyota Type IV being the same as the Cayenne ATF. So i sent in VIRGIN SAMPLES to blackstone to get the analysis on additives. The results are shown below:..........................................Cayenne ATF....................Toyota Type IVBoron.......................................73.........................................84Calcium...................................128.......................................105Phosphorous...........................292.......................................271Zinc...........................................6..........................................11SUS Viscosity @ 210F.............48.3......................................50.1cSt Viscosity @ 100C..............6.74......................................7.26FlashPoint in F........................410.......................................370Translation.....Both fluids are chemically the same as far as blackstone can see with their equipment. I attached the Porsche ATF slip for reference. VOAs cost $$, but well worth it if it saves cash down the road. I have some diff fluids coming as well for a VOA as well. The flash point requirement is >335F, which both exceed. So save yourself some $$ and buy the ATF from Toyota.

  • 1 year later...

Hello to all. I'm working on my 04 Cayenne S. Just changed the front and rear diff's fluid with LUCAS 75 W90. For the Transfer Case I was considering 3 oils.. Bilstein 14738 which has a Flash Point of 190C and ZF 5 which does it at 220. To me and thanks to the great info. from Clarksongli it looks like the Toyota Type 4 is the winner with a Flash Point of 370C unless I'm measuring wrong. Called the Dealer in Tampa where I live and they want $75 bucks for a quart and yes $6 bucks at the Toyota dealer.

Like i messaged you about....i run it in both my transfer case and my auto tranny.....no issues.

Took a Porsche Master Mechanic (friend of mine) and about 100 bucks to get the samples tested and compared at blackstone.....but well worth it as you can see......75 bucks for fluid.....that's a profit margin i'd like to have.

I used to have an '84 928 I owned for 17 years and recently sold which has a Mercedes Benz tranny. I'll never forget many moons ago getting a price at the Porsche dealer for $70 bucks for the filter and gasket and going to the Mercedes dealer and buying it for $14. That's another example of Porsche marking up stuff.

yeah M1 does have a higher flash, only difference though is the OEM fluid was not a full synthetic if i remember correctly. I know plenty of people that run Redline and other full synthetics, i just was a nervous nelly so i stuck with the OEM fluid.

Again i know plenty of people running synthetic now, i just chose to stick with OEM.....similarly with the diff fluids....the locking diffs use a friction modifier, so going to a full synthetic could potentially alter the friction plates in the lockers.

Unfortunately i could NOT find a direct replacement for the OEM diff fluids.....If i didn't have or use the lockers often, i would probably have just used the Redline alternate.

So how long any of you on the Toyota ATF, have had the car on so far in miles and in months (after changing from Porsche fluid)?

Any comments after your interval (smoother, not smoother, cannot tell diff, etc)?

Just wondering.

anyone?

anyone?

Of those who switched to Toyota T-IV ATF for tranny fluid replacement, how many miles have you driven since, and have you experienced any issues or warnings (anything of note)?Would be greatly beneficial to others who have been monitoring this. Thanks.

I've been on Mobil 1 synthetic ATF for 2.5 years now. It used to be approved now it's not. I'm not recommending it specifically, rather saying don't lose sleep over using an unapproved fluid.

I caveat that statement with this: unapproved fluids still must be of the 'correct' type. Aka, don't use the wrong fluid.

Sorry Ciaka, i'm on and off these forums.

I'd think i have roughly 30k on the fluid i think? Still running strong as ever....i just pulled several 30" inch stumps, and delivered a mini excavator for a friend. I certainly put my CTT through it's paces, which is why i bought it in the first place.

Shifting is not any different, cold and warm shifting seem to be the same. my plan is to flush it one more time since draining/filling doesn't remove all the fluid at once.
