Idle variable follwed by white smoke

Recommended Posts

Hi - any idea what could be wrong?

I have been away and didn't use car for over 6 months, noticed small amount of oil on the garage floor, so I topped up less than half a cupfull amount. Over past 3 weeks have noticed the usual blue smoke in the morning - but ignored as told it was common on boxsters.

Then this week while awaiting to fill up for fuel, the idle speed started to vary, and seemd the car was going to switch off, then a warning light came on to say 'take to garage' on, immediatly I noticed a lot of white smoke beloowing out of the exhaust, the car then died on me, and oil started to drip on the rear left side. I checked the the oil cap - no sign of emulsion on either the cap or dip stick.

Any idea what might be wrong, please?

A very worried owner.. MKP

The M96/97 engine can blow a puff of oil every now and again and be considered "normal", but not every morning.

Sounds like you may have and AOS on the way out; try removing the oil filler cap with the engine running. If it comes off with little difficulty, you are fine; if it does not want to come off, you have too high a vacuum in the sump because the AOS is toast.......
