I am missing the shift knob insert to my Boxster S 6 speed and cannot find a replacement anywhere without having to buy a whole new shifter... Does anyone
have one they would like to donate or sale? Or does anyone have any ideas on how to get one. Its just the insert that fits on top of the shifter Reverse through 6th...
Or does anyone have any ideas on how to make one? I am at a loss and it looks raty without the insert.....

I've got a 1999 996 Carrera that hasn't had any mechanical issues outside of a water pump replacement earlier this year. Just today I noticed that when in 3rd to 5th gear (I haven't had it on freeways to see if it's in 6th too, but most likely it does) in the mid rpm ranges (2500 - 3000+) there is a vibration that I can feel through the gas pedal and throughout the car. When the gas is let up and/or when the vehicle is coasting the vibration goes away. The vibration seems to only occur on acceleration and does seem to be coming from the rear. The check engine light came on as well, at first it was flashing and is now constant.
Any tips on what this could be? Drive shaft? Engine mount? Catalytic converter? .....?

Hello everyone. It's been a while.
Found threads on replacing the shifter cable. Thanks to all for that. The cable is new, but now I see that the point where the female end of the cable attaches to, the male end that is on the lever that is on the transmission, is shot to pieces as well. Anyone know how to replace this male end, and the part and number needed?
BTW, this is a 2002 996 C4S Coupe.

this is my first post! let's see if anyone can help me out with this problem.
i have a 2004 porsche cayenne turbo with 120 000 miles. took it for a high speed run last night (130+ mph).
when i got home i noticed a very rough idle and the car was shaking/vibrating. i can also hear a noise from the engine similar to an
the check engine light was already on prior to that ride (codes are : p2187, p2189, p0011, p0441)
no new codes so i assume there is no missfires?
feels like it runs on 7 cylinders.. coils and spark plugs have been replaced recently
can a high speed run causes a blown spark plug/coil ?
i still have boost so i assume it is not a boost/vaccum leak?
can it be a stuck valve, bad spring valve all of a sudden?
do i need a compression test or how can i check if one cylinder is missfiring?

Experts, I just drove my MY 01 996 C2 27k miles odometer, from the airport, and it has a violent vibration at low speeds under 20mph and under 3k rpm. I don't have a CEL reader to post the codes
When I was not on the gas the vibration went away, put as soon as gas pressed it came back. Pulling off and under 20 mph it felt like the something drastic was about to happen and the CEL was flashing. Btwn 3-4k rpm it was less violent vibration but still bad. I recently got it back from the shop and but it was only for oil change, and brake flush no engine work. The MAF sensor was already replaced last yr, maybe 4k miles on that.
I searched the other threads and it could point to ignition coil pack.
I drove it about 14 miles and tried to baby it as best I could. The dealer is about 20 miles away mostly highway, what are your thoughts on driving it to the dealer, or should I tow it. One post said u could damage the cats and there really expensive.
Can someone give me guidance if it is ignition coil how big and costly a job that is? I know u don't have much to go on w/out the codes.
Question - should I err on the side of caution?
