Hi guys,

Looking for a little help.

Just replaced the alternator and everything was fine for a couple of days. Then CEL comes on steady, along with the cruise control light, temperature light, and low fuel light. The tachometer is also not working. Everything else (gauges, etc) is fine and car is running great. Put my OBD scanner and NO codes come up at all. I think it might be a grounding problem, but am not sure.

Anyone see anything like this? Any pointers would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance, Al Nugent

Have you verified that the charging system is still operating correctly including the battery?

Yes check charge rate and for poor earth! sounds like low voltage

Thanks. Charge rate seems fine and battery is new (April). I guess it's time to troubleshoot for grounding...

Why were you replacing the alternator? It sounds like you were having electrical troubles prior to this.

Yes. I replaced the alternator b/c it was not charging at all. These symptoms appeared a few days after the alternator swap. Other than not charging, I had no electrical issues prior to these.

Cheers, Al

Well I was driving yesterday when the coolant light began to flash, temp hit 200, so I went home and filled the coolant, which was really low. When looking through the fill, there wasn't any coolant all the way down. I put in about 3 quarts [ capacity 2.5 gal.] which was a lot of loss. But There wasn't any leaking. [?] The level stayed steady at the 1/2 min-max mark.

Driving today, about 10 miles back and forth, not only did the light come on but the temperature shot up. I pulled into the driveway just as it hit 250.
No check engine light, no other diagnostic light, just the flashing coolant light.
      [meter/check codes?]

When I got out of the car, I could hear a loud whine from the trunk.
Opened it to find that the coolant cap was venting hot coolant steam, and of course the loud and unnerving hissing-whine, from the cap.
After a few moments it stopped. Waited till it all cooled down and slowly and carefully removed the cap. Same issue as above.
No visible coolant in fill. I again put about 2 quarts, level hit between min-max.
No leaks under car, coolant level hold steady.

The mix is  1 gal. Porsche coolant [bought though Pelican], and 1 gal. distilled water.
Shaken, not stirred to mix. Let sit. Yes, nice and pink when poured.
The coolant tank is brand new, perhaps has a thousand miles on it. Cap came with the tank. Porsche, not OEM. Put on by a reputable shop which specializes in German cars. I screwed that cap down properly, real tight.

No overflow. No leaks.  I'm loosing coolant when driving, only.
      Any ideas?

Obviously I can't drive it. Next steps is to load it on a flatbed, and drop it off at the shop.
      {Poor Boxie} ?

      Thanks, as always!

CEL went off over the weekend, Durametric showed a P2190 code.
Car is a 2007 C4S coupe w/ Tip at 69,000 miles. Basically bone stock, serviced at the dealer.

After checking with Durametric I opened the hood and noticed that the hose clamp connecting the wide Y hose from the airbox onto the intake manifold came loose. So I though there is a vacuum leak, took off the airbox, replaced the airfilter, cleaned the MAF. noticed a few ml of oil-like fluid inside the throttle body just at the level of the butterfly flap; so I cleaned that up. Tightened oil fill and gas caps. Reconnected everything, cleared the code but now it came back a day later. I have an appointment with the dealer in a few days.

Any suggestions what I can do to maybe fix this on my own? Many thanks

I have 2000 Porsche Boxster S that is misfiring on nearly every cylinder. It started with symptoms of a bad MAF; typical sluggish on take off, CEL light with the corresponding code. I would disconnect the wiring from the MAF and it would clear up. I cleaned the MAF and plenum and it ran perfectly for about a day. Ordered a new MAF. By before I had a chance to put the new one in I got a flashing CEL and a massive loss of power. Put in the new MAF. It cleared up some idle issues but the loss of power and flashing CEL is still there. The codes show random misfire and misfire on 2,3,4,5, and 6. I've also changed the spark plugs but it has had no effect.

A week ago I replaced my weak battery. After the replacement, my cruise control dash light won't come on, and the cruise control won't function. Fuse appears to be good. Any ideas greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

I have just read several posts on this site about retrofitting a cruise control system to a Boxster 987 with great interest.  My 07 Boxster S has all the extras except cruise control which I would really like to add.  Until now I had thought this would be a huge job involving additional parts to the engine etc.  I see however that in fact it only needs the hand controls added which is really quite amazing.  Unfortunately the posts are from around 2007 so I am not sure whether these parts are still available.  Has anyone done this mod recently and if so what were you experiences in terms of acquiring the necessary components?

      Many thanks
