The 2005 997 Order Guide lists Deletion of the Sunroof as option 652, but I was told that this opiton is not available and that no 997 S coupes are coming in to the US without sunroofs. True??

Perhaps all the "pre-ordered" dealers cars all have sunroofs. That is fairly common as dealers sell the most popular optioned cars from their lots. I do not see any memos that sunroof delete can not be ordered on a factory order car.

The dealer may not want to take the risk of being stuck with a much less salable car if you delete the sunroof and then cancel. I know that some people who ordered 996's with the sunroof deleted were required to make $5,000 deposits.

PCNA advised their dealer network on Feb. 28, 2005 that the sun roof delete option would not be available for US cars for the life of the 997 model; 110 or 120. They said the cost to re-engineer the roof system to meet NHTSA standards would be cost prohibitive given the small number of vehicles involved.

Hmmmm If that is true, I wonder what that might mean for the possibility of a 997 GT3 in the US market......? The 996 GT3 is unavailable WITH a sunroof.

GT 3 would need to be homologated and crashed tested as a different model than the Carrera. As such, GT 3 sales volumes would warrant the necessary expense involved to import this non sunroof model. Once a precedent is set for meeting NHTSA and DOT requirements with GT 3, PAG may then be able to convince these U.S. agencies to allow the sunroof delete option on the standard Carrera and Carrera S.

Personally, I like having the sunroof and enjoy tilting it open for fresh air when I drive. The weight penalty and reduced headroom are really non issues considering these are afterall road cars built for grand touring and not true competition cars.

I wish the sunroof was a tad bigger

Is there a mod to convert the sun roof to a moon roof?
