I just want to add that I wish I had followed Loren's advice (post #21 on this thread), but unfortunately, I did not see (read) it in time. That's my mistake, and for my impetuousness I now have two splices under my seat and more expenditure than I would have otherwise. But, the airbag light has not come on again, so that's at least some sort of progress. I'm still learning.

i replaced my window regulator on my 1999 - 996 and had to remove the door airbag. after reinstalling everything the airbag light stays on. how can i reset it.

You need a Porsche specific scan tool, such as the PST II, PIWIS, or Durametric software; nothing else will work.

Replaced the drivers side window regulator (disconnected the battery and airbag connector) and put it all back together started it up and no airbag light. The window was out of alignment so I went back in and adjusted it without disconnecting the airbag. Now the airbag light is on. I may have either bumped the airbag connector or the battery may have gotten weak from running the window up and down.

Called my repair place and they need 120 bux minimum to use the PIWIS. I live in the West San Fernando Valley if anyone close by has a PIWIS or Durametric and can reset the airbag light let me know.

Thanks

Dear Friends,

I have always advocated for a dedicated thread titled "mysterious Porsche issues."

This is one of the big ones.  My airbag light has come on at random intervals and for events that have no real rationality.

One time on a hot day I was out of the car for a few moments with the engine idling and running the a/c to cool down the interior.  Bingo.

Most recently, on a rainy, foggy, chilly night, after a long dinner, the airbag light came on when I turned on the front defrost and rear/side mirrors defrost at almost the same time.  Bingo.

My Durametric has never failed me.  Loren's always good advice is again good prophylactic advice.  But there is a mystery here that continues to puzzle lots of us.
