Metal on Metal Noise

My 2004 Boxster now has a metal-on-metal noise coming from the right rear side. The noise started randomly a few days before I took the car in for a brake job. The brake job is fine but the noise persists. It is constant and the pitch changes as my speed changes. It does not change when I apply the brakes so I don't think it's related there.

My kids hear it also, so I know i'm not going cuckoo. The reason I say this is because when I took the shop technician out to demonstrate the noise, it wouldn't happen! So with a child or with no one in the passenger seat, I get the noise. With the 210 pound service tech in the passenger seat, no sound.

I'm thinking an axle seal of some sort maybe? Maybe the weight of the technician changed an angle in the drive train and the noise went away?

Any thoughts?
