I had a new gremlin pop its head. Airbag fault message on my '04 S. Pulled the code with Durametric and code 1217 came up. Checked Renntech and wouldnt you know it this is a common issue with a TSB 9/04 6963. So I went to work following the TSB and its now gone.

Steps

Disconnect Negative battery cable

Discounnect wiring harness connectors to seat (includes airbag yellow connectors)

Unbolt/remove seatbelt harness

Unbolt seat and remove

Turn seat upside down

Follow tsb and find the two wire connector black and blue wires

Clip wires

Solder blue to blue and Solder Black to black

Shrinkwrap and zip tie back together

Reverse and put seat back in Cayenne

Nice job. This was definitely a common issue! I probably redid about 100 of those connectors. Don't be surprised if your light comes again at some point and you pull code 1218 for the passenger side!

I will be taking the Cayenne to a specialist tomorrow to check the fault codes (I don't have the software or cables, although I could remove the seats and solder the wires myself). How long would the whole job take? I'm thinking no more than an hour....

That estimate seems a little optimistic.

They will need to:

- hook up the tester to verify the fault(s)

- removing and installing side airbag

- removing and installing front seat
- removing and installing front backrest frame
- hook up the tester to verify the fault(s) have been cured
I think more like a two hours.
If your VIN is covered in the TSB they should give you a cost consideration discount.

Hey. I'm new to this forum and am the owner of a Cayenne S V8 2004., I have had error code 1217 and remedied this by soldering the cables. everything worked fine for 1 month. Now I have received error code 1738 sensor for airbag (driver), and seat occupancy, passanger - too big and Resistance battery open circuit. Are there more connections under the driver's seat that can cause a short circuit? I can not delete the error code ... it comes back right away?

Your OPC may (or may not) do a TSB required repair for free - or a reduced fee.

I called them and they said there was nothing on their systems about any TSBs or even any Recalls...

The porsche specialist I used charged me 2 hours labour as you said, did a fantastic job and highly recommend him - if any one is looking for one around London.

My 2005 Cayenne VIN isn't on the list of TSB but I had the same problem few years ago. After remove the connector and soldered the wire under the driver seat, the Check Air Bag light never came back. I used the Durametric to read and cleared the code.

Got the 1217 error code on one of my 04s. Took the seat out and found the connector had been by passed, took the shrink fit off the fix and found a crimp joint repair. Cut it out and soldered the wires. No more error code. NO CRIMPS - SOLDER IT

Thank you for the information. I also got 1217, lifted the seat and found it already had the recall work done. The crimp looked pretty solid, but I soldered the wires anyway, and the problem went away after resetting with Durametric.

It is possible to make the repair without removing the seat entirely; remove front 2 bolts, remove plastic cover on rear rails, and lift up the seat. It's a narrow reach to the black and blue wires but doable. 

Be careful when removing the aluminum triple square bolts. If you strip them, it'll be a bad day.

Does this fix apply to the '06 CS as well?  I've been having intermittent problems with the passenger seat airbag not being on with  someone in the seat and recently the airbag fault light comes on everytime.  I don't have a durametric, but do have an OBDII reader yet no codes come up.

      Hello everyone!  I’ve run into some electrical problems on my '08 Turbo and I’m stumped....  I've looked through a lot of Renntech posts and don't see any thing close. 
      First the panoramic roof and sunshade were opening and stopped about foot open.  Maybe coincidence, it happened right when someone opened the door.  I’ve checked practically every fuse even pulling the pano-roof control unit (back where the motors are located, and the circuit board looks okay. Then the instrument panel has started to act strange.  The gear indicator shows that it is all gears at once, see the photo which is while it is in drive and moving.  I can shut the car down and restart and the problem goes away.  The time keeps changing randomly and the outside temperature is wrong. The button that opens the rear hatch that’s on the driver door has stopped working. Then my battery died, it was five years old so no surprise.  After I replaced it the airbag indicator on the panel has lit up.  I’ve tried to reset the instrument panel (Main Menu> Settings > Factory Reset) but it will not allow me to select “Reset”.  I’ve also pulled the fuse several times to reset the panel but no change.
      Today, I’ve connected my iCarSoft POR II diagnostic tool to the car. 
      The Airbag section says it “cannot connect to the ECU” so I can not reset the airbag light.  There are YouTube videos of people using the tool on Cayenne’s (albeit on newer models) to reset it so I believe I can. The Panoramic roof says it does not have any DTC codes.  The lift gate button on the driver door indicates it has appropriate voltage and no DTC codes. Also, no DTC codes for instrument panel, electrical system or DME I’m not sure this is related or not, I changed out the interior incandescent bulbs with LEDs.   I now know that LED bulbs give off electromagnetic interference but seems remote.  (as a side note, I found this out when I put LED bulbs on my garage door opener unit and it stopped receiving commands from the remotes – I had to get special bulbs from Amazon)  Yesterday, I removed all the LEDs and went back to the old bulbs – no change.
      Any ideas, suggestions or guesses?

      FYI: The car is in Drive, "D"  and is in motion.

      My front wheel was making a rattling noise for about the last week, and this morning as I drove out of my driveway and turned the wheel, I could hear a loud popping noise coming from my wheel whenever I turned. My best guess is that I drove over a pothole and the control arm / bushing moved out of place. Would this be covered under the OE warranty? Or should I take it to a mechanic?

      Hi all, I just joined the group and am having some problems with my 2005 Porsche Cayenne. 
      When I drive a few miles it stalls and I see a message saying Reduction on and reduction off. I your help please, and thank you in advance for your assistance.

      Hi there, my Cayenne is telling me my driver's side door is open when it is not. This is causing the dome light to stay on. Not sure what the issue is and if can be fixed easily. Any info given is greatly appreciated, thanks!
