I have accidently added to much oil to the engine. The display showed it was 1/2 full, so I added more, but to much. The indicator shows totally full and not between the lines. I took it out for a drive before I realized this, and the engine smelled of burning...oil?

What do I need to do, if anything? Wait till it eventually goes down, or do I need to extract some oil somehow?

Thanks....

use a dipstick to determine how much u are over. if it's 1/2 qt or more, you'll need to either drain some out or suck some out using a topsider. you don't want to drive w too much oil bc that's cause foaming and not enough lubrication.

Let your car cool down and remove the plastic cover that protects the filter cartridge and empty it. It holds a descent amount of oil in it. Replace the cover, then start the car so the oil gets moving again and then shut off. Repeat a few times till you get the desired level.

You should be ok with up to a quart too much. If there is way too much oil then it gets sucked into the intake and you will know it right away from the cloud out of the exhaust.

If it really bothers you then dump oil out of the filter cartridge as suggested.
