transmission starts in first after reverse and shifts abruptly until w

Hello -

I back out of my driveway. When I shift to drive the transmission selects "1". It jerks when it shifts from from "1" to "2" and then "3". After it warms up, it seems to start normally in "2" and shifts like butter. Any ideas what's wrong?

Turn key on (but don't start car). Push gas pedal to the floor and hold for at least 10 seconds. Release gas pedal, turn car off, pull key out of ignition. Restart car as normal and see if that does it. The tranny will learn your driving habits, and sometimes it's not always for the better. Depending on the mileage and age of your cayenne, you may be due for a fluid change, too.

rpcc - where are you situated? cold weather will force a start in first and may also account for jerky shifts while cold. Even here in Florida, my car will start in first if the temp gets below about 55 at night

When the engine is cold, 1st gear start program runs to bring the cats rapidly up to temperature for emissions compliance. After the first period, few hundred meters or so it will end and the 2nd gear start program takes over unless overrided by turning off PSM as previously noted.

If the MY is early, 03-05 and PSM OFF does not result in 1st gear start then the Transmission control unit is not updated to the latest flash version
