hard top rattle on 996

Recommended Posts

Have had 2000 C2 since Jan 2011 and have used hard top every winter since then.  Even though top is secure and plumb, doesn't leak and windows tight, top still is noisy when hit bumps.  Noise is located at side nylon prongs that fit in windshield slots.  Don't have noise with soft top secured to windshield.  Has anyone added filler in the windshield slots to reduce the tops prong movement, for example?  Any other suggestions other than simply have to live with it, possible due to poor design?  Didn't have the problem with hard top mounted on my 1965 356.  Thanks.

Hi there,

do a search here in RennTech on '996 hardtop' in 'Forums'. There are many items out there that address noise issues and replacement options. Take a look specifically at the item from 987_RDC, within the post, Dominic provides a couple links that might be helpful.

Sometimes, I think we hear things because the car is so small and the ride is stiff on city streets and highways. It is not going to be super quiet. Maybe in your case the noise is a deal breaker...don't know.

Good luck to you!
