996 tt cab fault code p1702

hi just got a 2003 tiptronic from local auction, that had a faulty alternator, also d light and 4th gear light flashing on the dash, code read transmission, came up with code 10, also has code p1702, in engine codes fitted new alternator and charged the battery but codes will not clear, any help would be handy thanks

    You can remove these ads by becoming a Contributing Member.

P1702 identifies a short to ground at the control unit or one of the Tiptronic valves.

Further troubleshooting is needed to determine the exact cause.

 

Since this is an auction car you should also check for damage to the Tiptronic wiring harness.

The control module is located in the passenger compartment on the right on the B−pillar in front of the rear seat well.

Best get some further diagnostics - you don't want to replace the control unit if the problem is bad/damaged wiring or a faulty valve.

If you replace it the coding will need to be transferred using a (PST2 or PIWIS).
