Oil Filter Canister O-Ring Leak

Just changed the oil and noticed a small (few drops) of oil seeping from the Oil filter canister. I was thinking of removing the filter housing, changing the O-ring and then adding back the oil that was lost when I open the filter. Just wondering if I also need to swap out another filter? I wouldn't think so as the paper filter in there is brand new as is the O-ring. Wondering if I had a defective O-ring.  I am just asking because when you put a new filter on, the filter (paper element) is very snug against the back of the housing. Wondering if that would matter ... that the filter already in there would not be as snug against the back of the filter canister?

As you will most likely end up buying another filter to get the o-ring, just put the new filter in.....................

The female canister threads in my MY05 C2 fill up with oil during the draining process. When I screw the canister back on some of the oil in the threads gets pushed outside the canister and runs down the sides of the canister. This is a one time event and I just wipe the excess oil off. Is it possible that this is all you are seeing? Did you torque the canister to 18 ft-lbs?

Did everything correctly.  Torque and oiled the O-ring.  O well.  can't win them all.  Thanks

Some times the O-ring gets caught when screwing in the canister, and that puts a cut in it, which is all it takes for a leak.
