I purchased a 1999 Porsche Boxster 986 about a year ago and I'm having a few problems with the electrical accessories. The top worked fine when I bought it, but now it won't work sometimes. The radio also turns on, then immediately off at startup, and it won' turn back on until a few minutes later either by itself, when I use turn signals, power windows, brake, or even just by itself. After the car is "warmed up", then it will stay on. Other things won't work right or not at all, such as the alarms for, ignition, door open, light switches, etc. The fuses are all fine, and I know the battery had been replaced right before I purchased it. I haven't checked the relay for the top, but I am about to do that now. I feel like there could be a single problem creating all these issues. Any help would be greatly helpful and appreciated!
Hi there! My first question on here after lurking for a while.
Of all the options possible on the 987 - I'm really happy with my spec, but would very much like to have heated seats in time for winter 2017. The cost of wiring and sourcing parts to do this to factory spec isn't realistic. I have a really good set of sports seats with the optional crest embossed so finding a set as good, with the heating elements, plus all the parts, coding etc. let alone buying a new HVAC module with the stock switches. Meh - too fiddly.
So I'm going to go with an aftermarket kit. Haven't decided which kit yet but either way, I want to plan out where I'm going to get power for the elements. I do have a good understanding of auto electronics and am happy with using relays etc. etc.
Question: Where will the best place to get hold of a switched 12v supply that can handel the 4-5A current each seat can draw at max (while heating). This will be my first electrical job in a Porsche and I'm frankly struggling given how Porsche puts a specific loom into each car's options spec, rather than a one size fits all approach I'm used to with other cars.
Tap into seat power: Although I have manual seats, the back is still motor drive - so first thought was that I could borrow 12v power here. The wiring is also likely up to the job given that seat motors can draw up to around 20A. BUT the supply here is always on - not switched with ignition - so I'd inevitably leave the heaters on and drain the battery. There is a BOSE module under the drivers seat, so an option for power there, but even less detail/info about about specs here, and it dosn't answer the passenger side question so that's out.
Center console: Seems to be a source of switched power in here - but concerned it won't be rated/safe for the current draw - given it will only be designed for accessories and phone charging. Also - as above, how do I get under the carpet to run this neatly from the center console to under the seat?
Run wire from the Fuse Box: This is what I want to do really, and use a spare slot on the factory box for a centralised fuse location (I have having fuses just.. hanging around) - but I'm looking for a way to run the 12v neatly back to under the seats and leverage the existing cut out in the carpet to run the wire. I'm good with getting behind the carpet around the fuse box.. and getting the wire to the other footwell - but how do I get to the seats in a neat and tidy fashion? Can't find a guide or info on lifting the carpet on a 987. Perhaps I could tuck under the inside door sills?

I was told that i had power seats but i cannot get them to work. Everthing i find it appears that they are actually NOT power seats or they are not the seats that came with the car. Can anyone tell me if they are? I have included a pictures of the seat, maybe i have to buy something to get them to work? I was expecting motors or something underneath but as the picture shows there are none.

I have just purchased my first 928 and she is a beauty. It's only been a few weeks. Now I'm doing what I love the most which is tinker and make it even more perfect. On a recent cruise, I noticed that the engine temp got really hot (after being idle for a minute or two). I was just around the corner so I went home immediately. The red light litt up as I pulled in the garage. I parked it immediately and turn her off. the previous owner mentioned that the fan should run even after you turn the car off and remove the key but no such thing happen. I also notice that coolant started dripping on the floor. I determined that it was just coming from the reservoir from the overheating.
with that, I was confused because the fan didn't kick in. I took the car out again today and she seems to stay cool when running at speed (35mph or more). but once again would heat up when stopped at lights or driving at slow speeds. I could not hear the fan kick in at all. But I noticed something strange, the fan inside the car cabin would kick in on bust for about 10 secs randomly. At any point it would just blow at top speed even with the control knob turned off! what's up with that?
this is my first 928 and I'm looking for some direction. I should also mention that the fan was changed to an electric one. Hopefully that doesn't complicate things too much.

Hey all, I have an intermittent issue with a convertible top on a 2003 Boxster. After the car has sat for over a week the convertible top won't go up or down via the switch on the dash.
Thanks to the great advice on these forums I was able to eliminate a lot of potential problems (parking break dash light, micro switches, blown fuses). Then I came to some suggestions involving the relay panel and, sure enough, if I pull a relay and put it back in, the convertible top switch on the dash works again.
What I can't figure out is why this works. It seems like I'm pulling the wrong relay? I 'borrowed' this pic from another thread because the relay panel looks the same as mine. Everything I've been reading says that the convertible top relay is the long rectangular white box. However, when I pull the smaller white box to the right of it and put it back in, the one with the blue sides (see pic below), the top works again.
In case anyone can't see it from the above, here's another pic... The relay I pull to get the top to work again is the one to the right of the yellow outline:
Does anyone know why the top works by pulling the wrong box, to the right of what should be the convertible top relay? What is this relay, and if I replace it would it alleviate the issue?
