New member here who recently purchased my first Porsche, an 09 Cayenne that came without the factory hitch.

purchased a factory hitch on ebay and plan to go the OEM wiring route for sake of cleanliness of install and to get the added benefits of the factory module. I noticed that there's quite a few of them on ebay as well, but the part number is slightly different. 955-618-040-12 is the factory Porsche number but there are also another set of numbers that all start with 7L0-907-383(x). Based on ECS Tuning's website it seems that the 09 has N as the last digit, but the ones currently on ebay have E as the last digit.

Can older versions of this module work with my Cayenne or are they specific to the year? Would one from a Touareg work considering both vehicles share many components?

Below is the link to the module I'm currently looking at.

Thanks for your help!

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess:

when i did my install i had a "E" module (2004 CTT).  However when i went to program it, it showed up as a module with the auto retracting hitch ball, which i'm pretty sure wasn't offered until the later years.  We had to reprogram it to a US car with non retracting ball hitch.  This module was brand new suncoast too.

The newer models, do you know if there are 3 plugs or 2?  my module had 3 plugs, but only 2 were used in the install.....i assume the third plug is there for another year?

FYI those modules NEW are <150 bucks....it might be worth just getting a new module.  Try suncoast, they are a porsche dealer that sells at cost for online orders.

The 2 plug modules are for US spec cars and the third plug is for the retractable hitch option in Europe.

Also, I did first go to Suncoast to check their prices as I heard they were the least expensive for genuine parts, and they list it for $253. But it's good to know that it can be reprogrammed.
