Boxster Alarm Indicator Lights

Recommended Posts

Hi All!

This is weird. So I had the dreaded wet carpet syndrome on the driver side (probably from some drain hole being plugged, I'll clear out each one this weekend).

I checked where my alarm system is (below the seat), and it wasn't wet at all, just the carpet around it.

After removing all the water, and fanning it out, I test my car and it seems to function generally normal. The only exception is my alarm.

So my car is able to unlock and lock, but the indicator lights (blink once for open, blink twice for lock) doesn't work. My hazards/turn signals still work, but there is no blinking indication when the car is alarm system/locks are engaged/disengaged.

Anyone have any idea?

No check engine lights... perhaps I can use durametric to code it to blink my lights when I lock/unlock? Or is there another likely solution?

I appreciate your help ahead of time.

Did you remove and open the alarm system control unit and check the inside?

No Sir, I have not. Should I, and is there something I should be looking for besides just general water? When I open the unit up, is it complicated? Or is it just a basic box cover.

I assume all I have to do is to remove the seat, and then remove the box, then take it apart from there. I just hate to complicate things worst by messing something up on accident.

There is a lot of dust around the unit, so I assume it didn't get wet. Also, if water got there, there should have been water still sitting at the bottom where the unit was.

It was bone dry generally speaking, but I could be mistaken.

Thanks again for your response!

Then I would pull it and open it up.  We often find everything from corrosion to liquid water in them after it has been wet under the seat.  There is also an internal fuse in the unit as well that should be checked:

Thanks for the tips and pictures, and I'll keep you posted on what I find. I'll remove the seat and alarm system as soon as I can, and keep you guys posted.
