Need some help with secondary air inj issue

Recommended Posts

Getting the infamous p0410 and p1411 codes- sai pump is not running

Did research on all Loren's recommended items and found no ground at sai pump

Red wire to pump has 12 v , is this the wire from secondary relay ?

Black/brown wire to pump has neither power or ground

Schematic not showing where wire goes has tag 30/L158 and 31/C167

Recently had motor down for coolant fitting fix so not sure if I created issue

Is the black/brown the ground ?

Should it be straight to Ground or is it eec or relay controlled ground ?

Any help and schematics appreciated, I don't seem to have rest of schematic showing where that wire goes or not understanding the tags 31/C167 on print.

Welcome to Renntech!

The red wire is connected directly to the engine bay positive jump start point (i.e., it's always hot so be careful). The brown/black wire is connected to the SAI pump relay then to a "Maxi Fuse" then to the ground.

When engine is off, the relay is not activated so it will NOT supply ground to the pump. When the engine turns ON, the DME activates the relay, which then supplies ground to the pump.

So you should check at least he "Maxi fuse" 40A under the left rear seat parcel panel. The SAI pump relay is also there (position #10). If the fuse is good, you will have to check the relay itself and whether there's power to the relay.

Found sai pump had stuck and thus blown maxi fuse.

Disassembled pump, removed fan sections from motor shaft and found on top of motor the bearing is recessed a bit and has a washer that acts as spacer for first fan so it doesn't rub housing. It had some rust built up on that washer that was causing shaft to lock to the motor housing. Cleaned it all up, reasembled pump , tested it and reinstalled it. Replaced maxi fuse and all working good now.

Thanks for the help.
