Boxster Coolant Pipes routing from Expansion Tank

Folks,

 

I am trying to document my learning thru different posts on this forum to demystify cooling system in Boxster 986.

 

 

1. Engine Oil

2. Drain pipe that is open on the other end and can be found above the rear right wheel 

3. Vent or Bleeder -  I see there two vents coming from the radiators and from the diagram there should be another bleeder from the Engine. These are joined some where under the body and one pipe gets to the expansion tank.

4. Coolant pipe goes to Engine

5. pressure cap ? will in open on excess pressure ?

#3.  The oil cooler is the highest point in your cooling system, and the place where any air in the system will collect and potentially do the most damage by not cooling the oil.

 

Look at the top of your oil cooler, you will see a line coming off it:

That line runs over to the tank.  The total system bleeder is on top of the tank with a ring attached to it:

      So call me a nervous nelly, but in the past month i've done more maintenance then my entire ownership of the CTT.  
       
      The latest is the stupid Coolant Tees.  I got it out and have my aluminum Tees on order.  But what else should i do while i'm at it, if anything?
       
      Expansion Tank?  Original tank, 130k on it
      Expansion Cap?  Replaced at 125k
      Coolant Pipes?  Replaced with aluminum ones at ~80k
      Water Pump?  Replaced at ~67k.  How long do these normally last?
      THermostat?  Never Replaced, 130k on it
      Coolant Tees? Replacing now with aluminum ones.
       
       
      Anything i missed?  It only takes me maybe an hour to pull the manifold these days.  It's just annoying.  I hate to just throw parts at my car, but i really don't feel like doing a water pump next week or something.
       
      Any experience or feedback would be appreciated.

      Yesterday I had my coolant expansion tank replace, after driving it away from the shop the temp light began blinking slowly (which usually indicates low coolant or engine compartment fan faulty) I checked the coolant level and it was fine, today I ran the car and let it sit running for a while and never heard the familiar noise of the engine fan coming on, what could have happend to the car during the installation to have this problem? I would like to have something to say to the mechanic when I bring the car back. Thank you for any insight on this problem.

      Just replaced the coolant tank on my 2000 Boxster, found one tip to pass on, I found that by removeing the two pins securing the clamm shell and swinging out of the way I could get much better access and you dont get the greasy mark on your left shoulder from the locating pin. I also found that Mole Grips worked well on the clamps and that its best to leave the pipes on at the tank and remove them from inside the engine compartment.
      While doing this I discovered that the oil filler tube had worn right through in several places, would this have any effect on the running of the engine as this would mean there could be no vacuum?
