2006 Boxster not starting steering locked

Recommended Posts

My 2006 Boxster will not start.  When I put the key in the ignition it recognizes the key and the instrument cluster says key 1.  The instrument cluster does nothing and the obd does not function.  The car does not try to crank.  The battery is good.  The key remote locks and unlocks the doors.  If I put key 2 in it recognizes it and says key 2.  I put in another ignition switch and there is no change. I also get the message steering locked but it is not.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

For Tiptronic: brake lights ok? - brake light switch ok?

                      fuses ok?

For manual: clutch pedal switch ok?

                    fuses ok?

I would think that it recognises the key, and displays the key number in the dash, when you unlock it with the remote.  (It would need to do that if you had seat memory, etc.)  That being the case, it might be that the system isn't reading the transponder pills in the key head.

That said, it sounds like RFM knows something more in-depth, and maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree.
