New owner with problems already !!!

Recommended Posts

Ok just picked up a 1999 C2 and part of the deal was the owner would fit a new battery.

Came home last night when to lock it and the central locking off the key is not working.

Next i notice the door light will not go off unless i lock the car manually with the key.

Not a good start to Porsche ownership, any help would be appreciated on this.

To update now the door lights are going up but the clock lights miles computer are staying on unless the doors are locked.

  Thanks Steve

The Alarm CPU will turn off the light in time, don't know how many sec., does your key fob led light when button pushed?  If not take it to a auto parts store most have a fob tester, if fails check battery, but could still bad I took mine swimming left key in pocket, tried rice, alcohol dip, dead. 140 bucks for new one at dealer.

At least you didn't have your  alarm CPU didn't drown its under the drivers seat in a nice low spot, like I did as a NewBee. how this helps remember driving it erases any bitches.

Ronnie is correct there is a 5-minute (plus/minus)  delay after turning the key off and exiting the car.  So the central lock system off will not lock manually with the key?  I'm 'not' talking about the key fob, is that correct?

I found that you must open and shut the door to make the time delay for the lights to work.  If you reach in and turn the key to observe the dash lights, etc., then turn the key off without having opened and closed the door the lights will not time off.  Can someone verify that...

Any beeps when you try to lock with the remote?

Two beeps mean there is an alarm fault. One beep means one or more zones is reading "open".

No nothing at all no light flashing on the remote either.

When trying to lock using the key fob, does the car beep? When key fob is working, it can only unlock the doors but not lock tye doors?

The advice about replacing the battery is worth following and a good start.

Also my keys don't work if I try and use them when walking quickly towards the car.  However, they will work at a fair distance if stationary.

Have you tried some of the other key functions?  Will they open the front hood?  If the open door open button is held down does it drop both windows to fully open (useful on a hot day)?

Is there any evidence of water damage beneath the carpeting under the seats?

If yes, it could well be a problem with the electronic control unit under the seat.

I assume there are two buttons on the key fob.  One for doors and the other for hood?  So the hood button doesn't work?

I have had a problem with my key fob not working in certain locations and have had to put the key in the lock to both open and close the vehicle . I put this down to jamming from a higher intensity signal nearby. This hasn't happened frequently.

You might want to try the electronic signal somewhere else to make sure it's not some extraneous fault at your current location.

I have to say that in comparison with a Toyota key fob, which seems bomb proof, the Porsche fob has had a few wobblies, but not too many.

Dear CCMan,  Help me, could you be a little more specific, did I post to the wrong thread?  I had just about completed the post, did a spell check and the post evaporated.  Maybe it ended up on some unknown thread/link.

If you tell me the link I'll edit and remove...

Thanks

Mitch
