Litronic headlight leveling questions (my sensor is broken)

Recommended Posts

I discovered that my car's headlight level sensor in the left wheel well is missing some parts. It has the sensor and the vertical bar that connects it to the control arm. It seems, though that there is nothing on the control arm to attach it to and the lower plastic bit on the vertical bar is broken. It seems strange that the clip on the control arm would be completely missing. I don't even see how that could have happened.

So, my questions are:

  1. Is there supposed to be a level sensor on just this side, or should the other side have one as well?
  2. Should actuating the sensor manually while the car is running make the headlight do anything?
  3. When I start the car, I see the headlights do some sort of leveling and it looks like they point at the right angle. Is there some other sensor contributing to it leveling?

1) from memory, only one sensor in the front and one in the rear, each connected to the control arm via a plastic arm.

2) not sure

3) there are no other sensors. My guess is this sensor only compensates for the passenger load of the car so the adjustment may be relatively small and difficult to notice
