Hi all:

I just pulled the trigger on a 2001 Cabriolet tiptronic with only 73300kms (that's 45,00 mles!) which is very low for a 17 year old car!  Sadly the engine experienced an IMS bearing problem and when the dealer scoped the engine there were valve kisses on all the pistons, no compression, loads of metal debris, etc etc.  Long story short I need a new M96.04 motor or someone who can rebuild the M96 using all the knowledge of the years past to build a bulletproof motor.

I am in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and ideally need a local reference for either a suitable engine, a rebuilder, or someone who could reprogram the ECU from the 3.4 to a 2.7 donor motor I have found that I can swap in.  Help 9whimpering) please...

Welcome to RennTech :welcomeani:

Sorry to hear about your bad news in your first post.  If I were in your boots, I would not be looking around Toronto for someone that might be able to do it, but look for who is the best M96/87 engine builder period, who unfortunately is not even in Canada, but does have shipping arrangements for vehicles literally all over the world:  Jake Raby at FlatSix Innovations in Georgia.  He is not cheap, but his engines are killers, and he even runs a school that teaches other engine builders.  Jake developed the IMS retrofit procedures widely used today, and has even developed some excellent tooling for working on these engines.  Several board members here have attended his school, and several run his engines.  Give them a call, they will work with you to get you the best possible replacement: Jake Raby  There aren't many shops I would personally recommend, but his is one that I would without reservation.
