Hi everyone!

Possibly a new Porsche owner here. I'm looking at a '97 Boxster. It has a blown motor and the owner wants to sell the car vs. fixing it. So i've been shopping around for a motor, and let me tell you, they are EXPENSIVE. I owned an E30-M3, and I thought parts for that thing was expensive. No wonder the guy wants to sell the car vs. fixing it.

Anyhow, I've sourced a 2.5L engine from a '99 Boxster. The problem is I don't know if it's a sleeved motor or not. Based on reading a lot of the Porsche forums, they said the early MY99s had the problems. Is there a way to tell with the engine serial number if it's sleeved or not? The wreckingyard says it's from an 'early 99' which has me worried. I maybe buying another timebomb. With that being said, the motor has about 45k miles on it.

I plan on doing driver's school in the car as well. So the car will be driven somewhat aggressively. :drive:

Any comments or input would be appreciated.
