Boxster S issue

Recommended Posts

Have rebodied a 2006 Boxster S 3.2L into a 2005 Boxster 2.7L shell, all running gear and electrics, instrument cluster, console etc have been swapped including all looms.  Now will not start or give ignition lights on dash, error on display "STEERING LOCKED" and "KEY 2", I have tried a second Boxster S DME, alarm module key and switch with same faults,  Yet if I put a 2.7L standard Boxster Dme and ign set in the car starts and drives.  Any ideas? Thanks,  Brett.

Welcome to RennTech :welcomeani:

Yes, the immobilizer/security system computer does not recognize the pill in the key, because the "handshake" is programed into the 2.7 DME.  This would require reprograming the RFID code into the 3.2 DME, but without the original key code tags, is not possible.  You will need to flatbed the vehicle to a dealer with a PIWIS unit, buy two new keys with the code tags, and have them reprogram the DME, or get the entire ignition switch and keys from the donor car and swap them over.

thanks for the reply, all electronics have been swapped including the key, door locks door looms, I have tried 2 different complete key and module sets from Boxster S's to no avail, yet a 2.7L standard Boxster will work.

And was the immobilizer swapped also?
