A big Thank You to all those that donated to help us reach our 2019 goal (and pay the site operating costs)!

Just an FYI - if all members of this site had donated - then the cost per member would have been less than $0.06 each.

Thanks again to all of you that did contribute!

986 Camshaft Timing Sprocket Adjuster (Bracket)

Recommended Posts

I am replacing the cam timing chain ramps/pads on MY98 5 speed.  The top pad on bank 2 was completely gone and the timing chain between the cams was chain to metal on the tensioner.  The tensioner was toast and I'm replacing it.

I was re-installing the IMS chain sprocket to the exhaust camshaft and noticed a crack  in camshaft sprocket adjuster . Using my fingers I pressed it out and it split in two.  I'm looking for a replacement and can't locate one.  Any ideas?

In the PET it seems to be a driver listed as part 996 105 185 54 judging from the illustration 103-00 part #28. But I'll bet someone has one lying around from a broken motor.

I believe that part is discontinued as an individual part, and may now only be available with the gear for around $150 under part number 996-105-178-54. You would probably be better off checking around for a used one.  I believe they were the same up until 2004 on the Boxster.  But if you can't find one, Sunsetcan get you the new number.
