Can't adjust headlight beam high enough

Recommended Posts

Left headlight was too low according to vehicle inspection on my 996 -02 (facelift).

Nothing really happened when I tried to adjust it according to user manual. So I removed the headlight and it turns out that I can lower the beam but when I raise it I can feel that it gets to a point where it doesn't raise the beam any more; the adjustment teeth aren't gripping.

What might be the problem?

Hi again!

I've taken both headlight apart (the other one for reference).

Plastic wheels inside the headlight doesn't move at all when I screw the adjustment screws, not the up/down one, nor the other. The other headlight works as it should.

Are there electrical motors that adjust the headlights depending on weight in the car etc? Could it be something wrong with this function that made it go bananas and adjust until it wore down the plastic wheels?

Sorry, I can't help you with the operation - ie. "going bananas". My suggestion would be to either replace those "plastic wheels" or replace the light with a known working one and see if it seems to work properly. There are "level sensors" on the front drivers side and the rear passenger side that feed the Litronic adjusters.

If you've reached the threshold adjustment on the Litronics adjustments, then you may need to manually adjust the tray the light sits on. There are four point adjustments.

Yes, I did just that and managed to raise the beam. Just need to check in a workshop if it was enough...

Thanks ?
