Project 85 - Starter Replacement - Really 5 wrenches??

Recommended Posts

I posted this on Pelican Parts because I thought Wayne Dempsey may see it there, but didn't get much response...

Hi Guys

My 2002 996 C4 needs a new starter...
I have Wayne Dempsey awesome book 101 Projects for Your Porsche 911.
Project 85 seems easy enough -- at least from the descriptions and pictures. But it is listed as Expert Level - 5 wrenches.

Now I have very basic skills and tools... I was easily able to change mufflers, and do a window regulator. But I certainly wouldn't do an IMS (another 5 wrench project)..

So am I missing something here .. How hard is this project really?

It's buried pretty deep.  Lots of stuff to bolt/unbolt.  I'd say it's more time consuming than difficult.  I replaced mine when I replaced the vacuum lines since I had easy access at the time.
