Newbie help needed on clear lens conversion

Recommended Posts

Hi guys

I'm new to both Porsches and this forum..

I just got a 1998 Blue 996C2 and am loving it! I have, however, just purchased a clear lens kit for it (headlights, repeaters, tail lights and a smoked 3rd brake) to make it look a little more modern...

I've had a trawl through the forum but can't seem to find a diy guide to changing the lights....is there one on here somewhere. If not can anyone give me breif instructions on how to do it as they haven't come with any instrucitons. :(

Thansk very much,

Brute.

Hi Brute,

first of all: congratulations and welcome to the club!

If you are not converting from standard to xenon lights everything you need to know is in your manual. Just refer to the different bulb changing sections to find instructions for light unit removal. The change shouldn't take more than 20 minutes for all lights. If your new brake light is a LED light it might not light up at first because unlike normal bulbs LEDs won't run if the polarity is not right. In that case just reverse the cable on the plug. Ran into this problem myself with the second light in the spoiler. Did you think of buying a second one? <_<

I didn't even realize that there's another one before I actuated my spoiler manually

It didn't work though since the contacts had been a little corroded...

Regards,

Thorsten

BTW: It's okay to use Brute force :P

Thanks very much for this info....sorry for the delay getting back to you

You were right, it was very easy and took about 30 minutes to do in total. I didn't bother changing the spoiler brake light in the end as I don't think it really matters too much.

I've posted a few photos on this link a few pics on pistonheads

Thanks again! :D

The clear or "smoked" lenses make an incredible difference on dark cars.

Lots of sources for these parts. eBay often has a few choices.

I have an extra pair of smoked side marker lights that I'll offer here before listing on eBay. They are new and in the Hella (OEM) boxes wraped in the original tissue paper. How about $30 plus shipping?

I have also seen protective headlight film that was tinted, but it was not my thing.

Enjoy!

Does anyone have the cost and part #'s to do this to my 99 Boxster?  I really like the looks, what a major improvement! :o)

My C4 as shown already had the litronics with the "clear" turn lights in. So I don't know. The above pic shows it after the full turn light mod. Costs you a set of new silvervision bulbs and 45 minutes.
