Electrical issue, please help!

Hello everyone,

I'm new on this forum and have a question about an electrical issue I'm having. So I went to buy a new battery and the guy sold me one with the posts reversed. Of course, I should've noticed this, but I didn't. I mounted the leads onto the battery incorrectly for about 15 seconds before I realized something was wrong. There was some black smoke near the back and briefly the presence of the infamous burning electronics smell. Ultimately, the car will not start. Everything seems to be working except that. When I try to turn it over there's a loud repeating clicking sound near the dash area. I uploaded a video with that. Does anyone have any suggestions for me? I don't want to take it into a shop before I have an idea of what might be wrong, if that's possible that is. Thanks in advance!

Reversing polarity typically fries electrical components like the voltage regulator and sometimes the solenoid on the starter.  You sound like you have at least the solenoid problem.

Thanks JFP, I wonder, is there a fusable link between the starter and the battery on this car?

There are a series of heavy fuses in a separate panel that is on the inside of the fire wall, nearly directly behind the battery but accessible from inside the car.
