CAR FAILS TO START - DOORS WON'T LOCK

Recommended Posts

Hi Team

Very new to the 996 having previously owned both the 944 and 968 models.

I've had the car since Nov 18 and no issues..... 135000km on the clock and recently serviced. Love it!!!

My darling wife took my car (2000 Carrera 2) out for a drive today and after the obligatory coffee stop found the car wouldn't start.

When she tried to lock it (with the key) the car unlocked itself.

She had a full colour display on the instrument dash and the key turned but nothing happened.

I've done a quick Dr Google and in reading noted that if your alarm double bleeps that is an indication of an alarm/immobiliser fault (?).... my car started doing that a couple of weeks ago.

I would greatly appreciate your ideas/fixes.... noting the car is currently flat bedding to my mechanic.

Many thanks

Darren (New Zealand)

Welcome to RennTech :welcomeani:

Probably a couple of unrelated things.  You have an alarm fault (double beep), a scan with a Porsche specific scan tool will list the last ten faults.  You probably also have an ignition switch problem, a well know issue with these cars.  Parts are cheap and a search will turn up several DIY's on how to change it out.
