2002 Carrera 4S. I did a search and didn't see these exact symptoms simultaneously.
See attached picture. I was driving at 5k RPM in 3rd when the power of the car was suddenly reduced (by the computer I believe) and the console beeped displaying the following 4 checks: 1. Brake distribution 2. PSM failure 3. ABS failure 4. Battery -- also, as you can see in the pic, the battery voltage meter is maxing out. When I disengage the clutch from the engine the voltage drops some (and the brake/PSM/ABS messages go away and are temporarily ok) but is still running significantly higher than what I'm used to seeing. Could this high voltage be damaging to the electronics system? Presumably there's something going on with the voltage regulator. Does the ABS/PSM turn off automatically for saftey when there are voltage spikes?
My battery is an Interstate and is ~ 1yr old. This seems to me like the alternator (possibly the voltage regulator). I realize it would be better if I had a Durametric to hook it up to and get the exact error codes off of. That may need to be done to properly diagnose what's going on here.

Hoping to purchase this car.. They ran a DME and this shows only 19 Over Revs in Range 1 with none across the other ranges.. there are a "high"? number of misfires? Is this a concern or perhaps normal and maybe just require plugs / coil packs? My 1st Porsche.. I hope...
My first post here so please bear with me but pretty desperate for help. Have 2004 Boxster S and its, in general, running a bit rough (feels fuel rich). It also will also, on occasion, not go. Pulling up at a busy intersection and car reduces to Idle. Then put the foot down and the car stays at idle. Normally an engine restart gets things going again (although not always and sometimes requires a few goes).
Bought a computer reader and found error codes
P0102: Factory Fault code 115 - Mass air flow sensor - below limit
P2135: Accelerator Pedal - Signal Implausible
P0121: Factor Fault code 117 - Throttle value or accelerator pedal potentiometer - signal implausible
P1266: Factory Fault Code 409 - Fuel shutoff function monitor - signal implausible
Took the car to Porsche. They suggest a MAF sensor was the root cause and replaced it. It felt better for a few days then problem returned. They replaced another MAF sensor.. Same problem. They then said the MAF reads 0 and have checked the cables so its me DME and it needs replacing (not cheap)
Have taken the car back home and looked at the likely affecting values myself from the computer.
The computer shows to different values for MAF
Mass air flow (HFM) is always 0 regardless of if the car is working correctly or not and at any accelerator level
Mass air flow seems to move within a range of 18 (idle) to 100 (full throttle)
2. Throttle (since it had error codes on this)
Pedal encoder potentiometer 1 and 2 always move and the pedal value goes from 0-100% when its working but stays at 0 when its not. Since the potentiometers always move I am assuming the DME simply can't add things up so sticks the pedal value at 0.
ie. The MAF sensor reading above confuses the DME and it reduces the throttle to 0. That feel consistent with the behaviour of the car (its just sticks at idle)
Any one with any clues? Certainly don't want to replace the DME unless absolutely necessary....
Any help on this would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. This is my first post and I will try to be as specific as I can. SORRY if it seems long. I have a base model cayenne 2004 with 89,000 miles. I have always been good about the upkeep... Just changed oil, oil and air filter 2 days ago.
For a few months now I have been getting the 4WD system faulty and the PSM failure workshop codes. The codes usually do not come up right away upon starting the car. They pretty much always come up in the middle of a drive at various speeds. I could be on the highway or at city speeds. The codes ALWAYS come up together, which makes me think they could be related? 4WD first and then PSM immediately after. (The 4WD definitely works however. I just moved from Minnesota and drove through the mountains in Denver with the car. I had no issues with the car losing traction. It honestly plowed through the ice and snow like a boss!) The small icon on the dash will also stay lit (a triangle with exclamation point in middle with circle arrow around it.) Next time I go to start the car it is gone. I have not noticed any problems with the car while driving. To me it seems perfectly fine and drives the same the first day I bought it. I looked at the previous forums on this problem but I never saw an actual solution? The guy just gave up and sold it. Other users mentioned it could be the battery. I just had my battery checked and was told it is still good. My FM transmitter also checks the voltage every time I plug it in (basically every time I drive) and always says the voltage is normal.
I took it to a mechanic and he said it would have to be diagnosed by the Porsche dealership. He told me this because he said he does not want to waste my time and suspect the wrong part to replace if that is not really the issue. He said it is really hard to diagnose these cars without the bench only the dealership has. He did give me the exact codes which I can list later once I grab the paper from the glovebox. So basically, he got the codes for me and gave me some more transmission fluid which he said was a little low. He cleared the codes for me and charged me $75 dollars. Seems stupid considering I still have the issue and now have to go to the dealership next Friday to get proper diagnosis. But, at least he did not charge me original diagnosis for $145...
Anyways, the codes are still coming up after the guy cleared them. Let me know if you have any input on the situation or if you could link a similar forum where the user listed the solution that would be fine as well.
SIDE NOTE: I am also receiving the message system key faulty. My mechanic in Minnesota said that was simply due to the weight of the key in the ignition moving around. He said it was no big deal and does not affect the car mechanically. The previous owner bought 2 new key fobs about 1 year ago. This happens with both keys. I have one with a lanyard and keychain on it that I use regularly and the other is just the fob itself. Can anyone confirm that this is true? I know it seems small but it is kind of annoying to hear it pop up often.
I'm sure the dealership will give me the info I need and I can update this post after the diagnosis Friday. If any of you smart Porsche pals can point me in the right direction before the appointment I can at least prepare myself for what I'm getting into lol.
My 2004 Cayenne 9PA 3.2 has suddenly developed a fault. It started by saying "four wheel drive error" on the dashboard and shortly after "ABS failure" followed by "PSM" failure. The centre console four wheel drive system switch (behind the gear change) is also not working (LED light not going on if the dial is moved).
I changed the battery with a brand new one, top of the range and went to my local friendly Porsche mechanic who run it through diagnostics, cleared codes and they popped up back again which he then attributed to an electrical fault in one of the cables. As he is a mechanic and does not cover electrics he suggested I find a specialist that covers electrics.
I checked all the fuses and they look ok.
The car drives ok but when started it seems like it is trying to lock the wheels (like when in the past the PSM would engage).
Any help? I have a tester so would not mind checking continuity of ground points etc, but rather than taking the whole thing apart it would be great if any of you has a suggestion - which would be greatly appreciated.
