2007 Cayman In-Dash Phone

Hi all, this is my first attempt at posting so please bear with me.  I have a 2007 Cayman with the in-dash phone with the drawer for the SIM card in the dash.  Here in Michigan the phone is no longer able to find a network.  I believe the original equipment in the dash is 2-g technology.  I really like the simplicity of the set up and was looking to see if there is a way to keep my original dash lay-out and upgrade the in-dash phone from 2-g to 3 or 4 g.  

 

Any ideas?

Your problem is even bigger: The OEM phones were analog, all North American cellular systems went  exclusively digital  years ago.  The system is a brick, and another example of why not to buy phone or navigation systems from the factory.
